Northern Virginia Birth Doula Services

A birth doula is a trained professional who is hired during pregnancy to provide support to a pregnant mom (and partner) during pregnancy, birth, and immediate postpartum. Support typically looks like: childbirth education, creating a birth roadmap together, education on optimal fetal positioning, and continuous support during labor to include pain coping techniques, emotional support, and additional physical support as needed by the mom. (and more!) All of my packages include prenatal meetings that are held in your home.

What distinguishes me from other doulas? I WILL BE YOUR ADVOCATE.

Most professional doula programs these days are teaching doulas that we are not the advocate for our clients, but that we instead teach them or their partner to advocate for themselves. In my personal experience- that is not always enough (though I do that as well). When you hire me, you are hiring someone who isn’t afraid to stand up for your birth desires. Of course, birth is not completely in our control. But, I make it my mission that you will leave your birth knowing that you had someone in your corner the whole time.

I currently offer birth doula support at:

INOVA Fair Oaks, INOVA Loudoun, Stone Springs Hospital, Reston Hospital Center, Premier Birth Center, and homes within the Northern VA area.

I work for YOU.

My job as your doula is to learn what is important to you in this birth experience.

I believe knowledge is power. When you work with me, I will walk you through the risks and benefits of each decision you might have to make in labor, so you can go into your birth feeling empowered. It is crucial for a mom to know she played an active role in her birth. As your doula, I advocate for your decision to be heard. However your birth unfolds, you will not be alone. I promise to create the space for your feelings and desires to be known.

And what about the partner? I work for (and with) him too! Many times a spouse or partner is unsure whether to hire a doula because they don’t want to feel replaced. Your partner is the one who knows you best, and we will work together as a team to support you during your labor and birth. When you hire me, we have one or two prenatal meetings, and I encourage the partner to attend these as well so we can learn how to best work with each other. I teach hands-on techniques that the partner and I can both use to provide comfort during labor.

“Birth is not only about making babies. Birth is about making mothers- strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength.”
